The Doodle Jam sessions began with a series called "Morning Doodles."  M.D. was a series of communal doodle sessions, inspired by my practice of making quick drawings on post-it notes every morning before I begin my day. Over the years, this practice has become an essential part of my day, and has helped me generate a plethora of ideas and compositions that I would have not otherwise considered.
By hosting these doodle sessions, I shared this practice with others, and provide a chance for individuals of all ages and artistic skill levels to meet, create, and have their work archived and presented to the public, all in a friendly environment.

Since launching the first series of Doodle Jams, I have continued to find new venues, and have staged Doodle Jams at:
the Chicago Publishers Resource Center, Chicago Zine Fest 2017, CAKE 2018, Twin Cities Zine Fest / The Minnesota Center for Book Arts, the Sulzer Regional Library, Dimo's Pizza in Wicker Park and most recently at Annas in Pilsen, Chicago.

past events

Opening Doodle Jam April 22, 2017

The opening session of Morning Doodles consisted of free doodle time, drawing workshops, as well as some good coffee and snacks.  All the doodles where then posted on the walls of the CHI PRC, marking the beginning of the week-long collaborative Doodle installation.
A session of live music was also staged near the end of the event, and was a great addition to the creative vibe of the afternoon.

Drink N' Doodle April 29, 2017

The Drink n' doodle took place on a ridiculously stormy night, however people still made it to the CHI PRC and where rewarded with drinks, pizza and the amazing talents of local Chicago artist and teacher Alex Nall.
Alex lead us all through multiple workshops and doodle games, which proved to be both educational and wickedly fun.  This evening generated even more images, and brought the doodle installation to a new level.

Morning Doodles panel at the Chicago Zine Fest 2017

Despite it's one-hour time frame, this panel at the 2017 Chicago Zine Festival proved to generate some of the most excellent doodles and collaborations.  At this point I had gained a plethora of experience from leading the previous Doodle sessions, as well as from Alex Nall (who lead the Drink N' Doodle.)  I used these resources to enact a variety of workshops and collaborative games; thus providing motivation and structure to the participants as they created a variety of wonderful art.

Morning Doodles Zine anthology release may 2017

This zine documents a portion of the Morning Doodles sessions.  It's content is drawn directly from doodles created by participants over the course of the events.
Each page is a collection of different doodles, which where scanned-in and printed on a Risograph at the CHI PRC.  These images exemplify the creative drive of each Doodle Jam.
I printed and produced this zine myself, with all proceeds to be donated back to the CHI PRC.*(Edit, the CHI PRC is now defunct, so all of the proceeds are collected by me for future doodle productions.)
A link to purchase this zine is located to the left, on my Store webpage.

Doodle installation the CHI PRC, 2017

By the end of Morning Doodles we had amassed quite a large amount of doodles, which we installed on the walls of the CHI PRC.
Big Thanks to everyone involved, and I hope to see you next time : > )

P.S. If you or your business would like to host a Doodle session and workshop, please contact me through the email form located through the "Me" link on the left.
